Via Bull's Rambles, the news comes from NASA's World Wind 1.3.5 press release, meant to generate some publicity. Part five contains excellent factual news:
A version written in the Java computer language that will run on Macintosh and Linux computers is scheduled for September 2006, notes [NASA World Wind Program Manager Ames Patrick] Hogan.
Considering the porting project seems to be dormant, that's great news to hear.
Twice, two: Will ESRI's ArcGIS Explorer and Microsoft's Virtual 3D Virtual Earth work on the Mac? I doubt ESRI will embrace the Mac. (As James Fee pointed out, it's a .Net application and porting it to other applications might be seen as a waste of resources by the main user community), but I don't think Microsoft really has a choice as to whether it will do it. The virtual world is a socially and economically viable space. Not making a Mac version would be as stupid as building a Windows-only online store. (Note that both Second Life and World of Warcraft have Mac clients.)
